HAS THE BIBLE BEEN CHANGED? What the Christian scholars say… “A copyist would sometimes put in, not what was in the text, but what he thought out to be in it. He would trust a fickle memory, or he would make the text accord with views of the school to which he belonged.” - Reverend I.M. Drummelow, Bible Commentary, Cambridge University. “I saw that God had especially guarded the Bible, yet when copies of it were few, learned men had in some instances changed the words, thinking that they were making it plain, when in reality, they were mystifying that which was plain, by causing it to lean to their established views, which were governed by tradition.” - Ellen C. White, Bible Commentary, vol. 1 pg. 14.

In the King James Version (Authorised Version) of the Bible, the following appears: “AND I SAY UNTO YOU, WHOSOEVER SHALL PUT AWAY (DIVORCE) HIS WIFE EXCEPT IF IT BE FOR FORNICATION, AND SHALL MARRY ANOTHER, COMMITTETH ADULTERY; AND WHOSO MARRIETH HER WHICH IS PUT AWAY DOTH COMMIT ADULTERY.” (MATTHEW 19:9) [EMPHASIS OURS.] Divorce in Christianity has always been forbidden, except in the case where the wife commits adultery. Of course, only a small proportion of Christians actually practice on this teaching these days. But the point we want to make clear to the concerned Truth-seeker is how Bible scholars throughout the ages have tampered with scripture in successive versions. In the later 1952 Revised Standard Version (RSV) of the Bible, the very same above-quoted verse reads: “AND I SAY TO YOU WHOEVER DIVORCES HIS WIFE, EXCEPT FOR UNCHASTITY, AND MARRIES ANOTHER, COMMITS ADULTERY.” - (MATTHEW 19:9)
